How to Connect Soundbar to a TV without Optical Cable

For example, soundbars are one smart solution for your TV sound problem. The sound that comes out from the television speaker is disturbing and very poor in quality. That is why soundbar system has become more popular among the people.

Connect Soundbar to TV without Optical Cable

You can connect a soundbar to TV very easily with optical cable. But what if there’s no optical cable input on your TV? Then how can you connect the soundbar to the TV? There are solutions of this problem. Here are the different ways to connect a soundbar to the TV without optical cable. They are:

  • Use HDMI with ARC support
  • Wireless connectivity via Bluetooth
  • Use traditional RCA cables
  • Use of the Auxiliary (AUX) input

Use HDMI with ARC support

You can use HDMI connections to connect a soundbar to the TV without optical cable. To connect the soundbar to your TV via HDMI follow these steps:

  • Plugin one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT jack. You will find the HDMI OUT jack on the bottom side of the soundbar.
  • Now connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the ARC or HDMI IN jack. You will find the HDMI IN jack on your TV.  
  • If both ends of HDMI cable is plugged in then turns on the soundbar. The word “HELLO” will appear after the soundbar turned on.
  • Now click the source button on the soundbar and you will hear the TV sounds on your soundbar.

Wireless Connectivity via Bluetooth

If your TV doesn’t support optical cable then you can easily connect your soundbar to your TV set via Bluetooth. But both your TV and soundbar need to support Bluetooth technology. If your TV doesn’t support Bluetooth, you can use a Bluetooth transmitter to turn it into a Bluetooth capable device. Now pair the transmitter to your soundbar, and you will hear audio from the TV to your Soundbar. Different TV model has different Bluetooth accessing option, so check your TV’s manual while pairing it with the soundbar. If you find it difficult then call the customer service for assistance.       

Use Traditional RCA Cables

If you ever use a VCR or CD player to your TV set, then you might be familiar with an RCA cable. An RCA cable has three color-coded plugs in one side and a single jack in another side. You have to connect the single jack in the soundbar and the three color-coded plugs in the TV. The three color-coded plugs connect corresponding to their colors. If your TV supports RCA inputs then follow the steps to connect it to your soundbar.

  • Power off your Soundbar and TV before a connection
  • Plug the black end RCA cable in audio port on your soundbar
  • Connect the white and red RCA plugs to their corresponding audio out ports on your TV
  • Power on your TV and your soundbar and you are good to go

Use of the Auxiliary (AUX) Input

Auxiliary input enables audio input and output from different electronics devices. The main advantage of using aux inputs is you can use them with almost all audio devices. If your TV has AUX port then you can easily connect it with your soundbar. You will just need an AUX cable for this connection. Follow these steps and you can easily connect the TV and soundbar.      

  • Identify the AUX IN jack on your soundbar and connect one end of the cable
  • Connect the other end of the cable to the Audio OUT jack on your TV
  • If the connection is successful you will hear audio from your TV through your soundbar
